The Niot Learning Project is an educational model designed to assist students in grades 7-12 to identify and get to know their abilities, to empower and develop their sense of self-worth and personal capability and to improve their educational achievements.
The Project is named for Niot Watzman of blessed memory who studied at the Dror High School. With determination, consistency, and will power, and with the help of the educational staff and his parents, Niot overcame learning disabilities, successfully completed his matriculation exams and attained high achievements. After graduation, he enlisted in the IDF and successfully completed the taxing training for the Golani unit. Tragically, he died in a diving accident at the age of 20.
Niot’s family and the Society for the Advancement of Education joined forces to leverage Niot’s success to advance other students, establishing the Niot Learning Project in his memory.
A special evening, with attendance by Niot’s family, friends and the staff of the SAE, marked six years of the program and celebrated its achievements. At the event which took place at Kehilat Yedidyah, Eitan Moran, Executive Director of the Society for Advancement of Education, talked about the program and its wide circles of influence. The choral group from Dror High School performed, and Rabbi and Paytan - liturgical composer - David Menachem inspired the audience with stories and humorous anecdotes accompanying moving liturgical compositions.
